Spain's Future
Two main challenges that Spain will face in its future are unemployment and illegal immigration. Many illegal immigrants from North Africa and other places attempt to make the dangerous trek into Spain, and many die trying. Spain's extremely high near 26% unemployment means big issues for the country, as many people are homeless or out of a job. Many illegal immigrants also operate inside of a black market.
Illegal immigration can relate to unemployment in many ways. When illegal immigrants arrive into a country, they desperately try to find a job. When they cannot find a job when they are looking, they are counted as unemployed. These immigrants tend to find any job they can, including the black market. Sales in the black market do not contribute to a country's GDP, or gross domestic product. Unemployment rates create less demand for higher priced goods, leading to a price drop. However, when unemployment is this high, price drops are not enough, and Spain has entered into a recession. A recession is a period of prolonged economic contraction, or decline.
